Every year the geospatial data and mapping community organizes the #30DayMapChallenge
. The goal is to create a map each day around a different theme and share on social media. This year the official themes are:
I thought it would be fun to participate in the challenge using Wherobots Cloud and SedonaDB to work with geospatial data and create my daily map. So far I created:
Day 1: Points
Now that everyone has their Halloween candy it’s time to find a dentist near you!
- Data from Overture Maps
- Using SedonaDB on Wherobots Cloud
- Code: 01-points.ipynb
Day 2: Lines
Did you know the Overture Maps road network data contains information about roads under construction?
- Data from Overture Maps via Wherobots open data catalog
- Analysis using Using SedonaDB on Wherobots Cloud
- Code: 02-lines.ipynb
Day 3: Polygons
Calculating bird species range using data from Bird Buddy’s smart bird feeders.
- Data from Bird Buddy
- Analysis using SedonaDB on Wherobots Cloud
- Map created using Felt and uploaded using the Felt API from Wherobots notebook environment
- Code: 03-polygons.ipynb
I’m posting all my code on GitHub here, let me know what you think and if you want to participate in the challenge it’s never too late to join
